Dragon Age: Origins is an excellent example of an RPG.
Fallout 3 is an excellent RPG with FPS elements. Be sure to install some mods from http://www.fallout3nexus.com/index.php especially rebalancing mods, and retextures to make the best of your new PC. It's rich in atmosphere, with strong, open-ended gameplay.
Borderlands is a Diablo-inspired FPS/RPG. It's fairly light-hearted and a ton of fun - however, whilst it has a strong single-player mode, it's a game that's best to play with other people, so it may not be for you.
Mirror's Edge is a first person action-adventure game, with beautiful, crisp and clear graphics. It's criticised for being very short and linear (which it is), but I found it fun.
If you're into Real Time Strategy, Sins of a Solar Empire is a good choice. The game is set in space, so it has some beautiful graphics. The gameplay is satisfying and challenging. My only complaint would be that there is no campaign.
Red Faction: Guerrilla is a rather satisfying third-person shooter which is based around blowing things up. Every man-made structure in the game is completely destructible.
